Has anyone tried the Boomkicker boom support? I have a 2001 water ballast 250.

I have a friend who is a very new sailor who has added one to his Capri 22 and is very happy with it. He lives in another state, so I have never seen it.

I purchased a BoomKicker from catalinaowners.com It was a very complete kit designed for the C250 (mine is a Wing Keel). I've been impressed I like the sail shape as well as the ability to remove the topping lift (havent done it yet, hopefully this weekend)

I have a boom kicker on my boat. I like it - nice to have the boom held up with out messing with the topping lift. Great for putting reefs in and out.

Note: it does need to be tied/clipped to the back stay when the sail is down - boom will swing around some if you are underway and not tied/clipped to backstay. Also with the sail down, you can push the boom down pretty easily. You need to watch this if going up on the cabin top with the sail down. If you use the boom for support, it will push down and away from you.

Here is a picture of it - it installs just in front of the boom vang:

I am a bit late replying to those who gave me advice on the Boomkicker. Thanks to all--sounds great.

As an alterntive, you might check out Garhauer's web site for their rigid vang. They have a design for all Catalinas, is of very good quality, and is about the same price as the boom kicker.

I've used mine for 3 years now and have had zero problems with it.
