I'd like to mount an overhead hook forward of the compression post, at the aft edge of the vee berth, which seems a good place for the brass oil lamp I just received; but am not sure how to go about it, how thick the headliner is or how to insure a strong hold. Have some of you made overhead installations?
Reuben, I bet the lamp will look great. Rather than make a hole in the roof liner, consider opting for a brass strap that would go around the mast post with tabs on it's ends to hang the lamp from. Easily removed if it doesn't work, and brassy enough to be nautical. You can find brass sheet on eBay or perhaps at a Marine Fleamarket.
