Has anyone heard about this place? Key Lime Sailing Club I'm thinking about making a trip there. They say you get a Catalina 22 with your stay at no extra cost. Looks like a great way to play in the keys without having to drag my boat down there at 10mpg.
Hey Tom I feel your pain about the low mpg when trailering. I get a big time 9 mpg whenever I trailer my boat down to the Keys, which I do every winter for my 3 week escape from winter. I don't know anything specific about the Key Lime club. However, if it is located on the bay side of Key Largo, I can comment on the waters there. It is in a very shallow part of the bay. It is also located in what is called the "dead zone" by some. This means that the water supports very little life. Agricultural runoff, silt, pollution (I"m sounding like a tree hugger here, but that's OK) from south Florida has done it. If you want to get out into the Ocean, you would have to travel down to the Snake Creek bridge to cross over. Do a search for condo's in the Keys as there are some that you can rent and they include a Catalina 22. Personally, part of the charm of going down there is to have my own boat, as I live on it for the time that I'm there. I'm either anchored out, or in a marina. Part of the reason we fix up our boats is to enjoy them. But act quick, as all the small funky marinas that I like to go to are all selling out and going "dockominium" The billionaires are buying out the millionaires. I don't know about you, but I don't fit into either category. I'm not trying to discourage you at all, but don't expect to be sailing and snorkeling in pristine clear waters in that area. If you do decide to go, let me know, I'll let you know of some good local restaurants, good anchorages, etc.
Thanks Frank, I did a little searching on the web and found a site that had lots of reviews on the place. Everything sounds okay. Very laid back is the best way it was described. We're gonna give it a go in November.
I travel to Knoxville several times a year for work. I have a store in east Knoxville on Cherry St. Also my wife has family there as well.
If your ever down around Atlanta and want to see the ole stomping grounds again let me know. I'm only about 5 minutes from the Boat and she's always ready
Hey Tom, My boat is docked at Concord Yacht club. Contact me off line and let me know if you need to take a quick sail on scummy Lake Louden. What kind of store do you have on Cherry Street?
