I've been told that you can touch up Cetol finished teak by just cleaning it and applying another coat. This goes against my "sand to the wood and start over" upbringing. Has anyone touched up Cetol like this or should I sand it all down?

Been using it since 1992 when I had to order it here in Washington State from the E. Coast. It's great. Every summer I do a quick clean, maybe hit bare spots with bronze wool, then recoat. No problem. My teak takes one afternoon per year! I love that

Hi Doug,

At the very most, all you have to do is buff the old finish with a "plastic wool" (Dopey) or bronze wool pad to slightly rough the surface. Then "paint" over the old. It's about the easiest exterior teak finish you can find.

i bought our c-25 this past may. looked like the teak was never coated with anything. i replaced the companionway trim, cleaned the old teak with teak-a then put on two coats of cetol-lite (don't like the dark color of regular cetol). it all looks great.

If the wax got on bare teak you can clean and bleach it with oxalic acid. This will bleach out the teak and remove the wax. Then re stain or coat with cetol. oxalic acid can be found in any good marine store and usualy comes in christal form. Mix as you n

I quickly hit my teak with 220 just to take the shine off. Cetol goes on so easily and goes so far that I apply 2 coats each spring.
