I'm about to make a serious investment to undo some mistakes of the DPO... My problems are:
1. The 22" shaft on the Honda 8 puts the anticavitation plate right at the waterline (boat empty). Pitching causes major cavitation, and when I go up to the f
Dave: A few thoughts on the motor and mount questions. I installed a Honda 9.9 (2001 model) on the Fulton mount. The Honda does have a built in flushing port now; I would guess that the 8HP model is the same.
I beleve the new Hondas have a fresh water flush on the head now too. Seems like they came out with it right after I posted how to do it in the old Tech section for C-25 under Wind Lass. Add electric start and your ready to rock and roll.
Dave: I think you are making all the right decisions, but I would strongly urge you to look into the 9.9 Honda with the XLS (extra long shaft--also 28"). I believe it is in the same ballpark weight-wise as the 8hp, but the extra horses come in very handy
The 2001-2002 Honda 9.9 is the same engine as the 8, without the thottle limiter (as they did with the 9.9 and 15 up to 2000). Since my "low-thrust" Honda 8 pushes the boat to hull speed at around half throttle, I have no doub

We installed a motor bracket this past spring and may have screwed up a bit. First, if you plan on doing this while on the hard, mark your true waterline while in the water. With the boat somewhat empty. Do to paint jobs of the prevous owners,
Thanks Arlyn, errrr Duane, that is... <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
Good point about drilling, filling, and redrilling... The starboard side of my transom has a box/ledge inside that will make lowering the mount a challenge--curr
Do you know what is inside that "box/ledge"? If memory serves me, I think the box/ledge on mine has an access panel (covered by a wood cover) which could give you access to the lower area of the starboard stern area. If yours does not, could yo
FWIW, I'd go with the longest shaft available. Also, we have the OMC bracket and like it a lot, though I can't say how it compares to the Fulton. The cylinder is original (13 years) and seems to work fine- the motor (Yamaha 9.9 4-stroke, ES)
The We had to put one set of bolts above and one below. Access was gained through the quarterberth for ours. In our model (78) the mount was on Port and the ledge is for the gas supply which goes out through a through hull fitting. We could, however ac

Does anyone with the OMC 4-strke outboard bracket have a model/part number? Are they still in production? Does anyone have a source? I upgraded my original 7.5HP LS Honda with a 2001 9.9HP XLS Honda this past Febuary, but still need to upgrade the bracket
I'll see if I have any info on my OMC bracket part number when I go to the boat this weekend... Here is my very simple diagram of how our bracket is mounted on wood blocks on the transom. There are two blocks, each shaped like a door stopper with the
Chris: That's odd... Looks like the PO wanted the bracket tipped back for clearance or something... I might suggest, when you add your backing, that you also replace the wedges with a full "fronting" board that could give you a little clearance if you n

I have the OMC bracket with an Evinrude 9.9 Four Stroke. When it's raised it cannot be tilted because it hits the stern pulpit. This means the prop is still in the water. The only solution is to re-adjust the tilt bracket everytime we raise the motor.
If anyone's interested, it looks like Honda wins (for my needs)... Longer shaft, alternator over twice as strong (regulated 12 amps at 3000 rpm vs 6 amps at 5000 rpm), and a backup recoil starter (you have to remove the cowling, 3 bolts, and the flywheel
Thanks for sharing the information you've gathered. I'm sorry I couldn't find anything more on the OMC bracket. It sounds like you'll have a great setup! Good luck!

Hi Chris! We sail out of Barnegat, slip is on Double Creek. We also live in Barnegat so we get to do a lot of weekday sunset cruises in the summer (after work). I checked your boat out on your website: Spirit is beautiful. I think these C-25's are gre
Thanks for the compliment! We have a new 135 genoa (Ullman) on a Profurl roller and the original standard rig main. The halyards lead aft, and the cabin top winch is for the main halyard. We don't tow her, so she's berthed on the Bohemia
Hi Dave, thanks for your last e-mail on the elusive OMC bracket. I spoke with a gentleman last week who purchased the Honda 8 HP last year. He's had it back to the dealer three times and they still haven't corrected the problem (probably dealer fault no
I have a Yahama 8 HP that I'm going to install soon, but was wondering if people are able to change the lower gearcase oil with the engine bracket lifted all the way up, but with the engine still upright (as is required by the Yamaha to change that oil)?
