Hello all. I have not seen this one come up yet, so I gotta ask. I recently installed the autopilot I bought 3 years ago. What a cool toy... Anyhow, I noticed during the installation process that the rudder is actually not mounted center.

Is this normal for a '82 SR? And if so, why?

At most an inch and a half. I would not have noticed except for the fact that I chose to mount the autopilot on the port side and discovered that the tiller favors the port side by over an inch! It does not seem to affect handling or even the autopilot.

From all appearances it looks like a stock installation. I haven't had time to measure from the zodiac the stern and measure it that way. But from the cockpit, measured using a number of points of reference, it is not centered.

Sten,

Does your rudder line up with the skeg? If it does you're O.K. If not it might be PO's installation error.

Uh, ooops... Duh.... It is in line with the skeg... I guess that means that the cockpit is slightly off...
