I took my stove apart to clean and now am wondering how important the washer is that goes on the underside of the stove on the burner assembly shaft between the stainless steel and the brass nut. Does that keep the alcohol used to start the stove from dripping down underneath or am I good to go without them?

"Does that keep the alcohol used to start the stove from dripping down underneath "

I suspect that is it's purpose. You don't want flaming alcohol running down under the stove.
