Anyone have, or have had, experience with the 110 furling sock? Since 250 jib leech protection is only good for 5 years, seems a less expensive way to prolong the life of the sail. New 110's go for around 700, n'est pas?

I have had a Furling Sock on my 135 genny since I bought the boat in 2001. I had it made at a local sailloft and at the time was around $175.00. I use the extra halyard to raise it and it works well. It is made of the same material as the sail cover. Would not go without one!

I had one on my last boat and really liked it. Sometimes when the wind really pipes up it can flog pretty badly. Usually if I was at the boat under those conditions I would take it down for awhile and let the sail have a little UV. It was very strongly made and the flogging probably didn't hurt it, but it could get pretty noisy. But I'm talking 18-20 knots of wind here.

Frank;
I've been using a jib sock for the past 5 years or so on our 250wb. When I purchased the boat, used, the previous owner had added a sunbrella cover to the jib. I found that it distorted the shape of the jib so badly that the sail would hardly work, the 110 was just to small for that much weight, and the stiffness of the sunbrella fabric ruined the sail shape. I removed the sail covering and had a jib sock made. This summer I decided to replace the jib sock, cuz the zipper was getting to hard to use. I got the new one this week, from Catalina direct. It is listed on their website as "cover C-25, C250 furling sock std Royal Blue only for 110% Jib". The dimensions are correct for the 250, 110% JIB, with with the standard rig. My dimensions are about 28.5' hoist and an open width of the sock of about 14inches. The quality of the sock from Catalina Direct is great, the cost for the Pacific blue color (their stock,standard color) is $225.00 plus shipping to N.C. that was $11.00.
The jib sock is easy to use, I hoist it on the unused jib halyard.

Thanks, Bill. But being a cheap sob, I'll try and scrounge one on eBay or a local used marine gear store.
