On a run, the spreaders indent the main, potentially causing a tear or a rip. Seems like faulty "engineering". I would like to cover the aft edge of the spreaders to prevent them from popping thru the main on a run with the wind above 15 knots. What material would you suggest? If the wind pipes up above 20 knots would a 2nd reef put the leech under the spreaders? Thanks.
On small catamarans the batten pockets rub the shrouds, causing the sail to wear thru after a few years. I've seen a couple of products used to try and prevent the 'damage'.
The first is a clear, very thick tape that is applied to the chafe area. This works until the adhesive gets dried out and the tape falls off. It lasts a couple of years.
The second is a strip of thick clear plastic that is applied with a sewing machine. It actually looks pretty good and works forever. The only down side is that you need a sail loft, or something like it, to sew it on.
The only place I've seen the tape sold is Murrys on the web.
