Ummmm..... yeah, hello....? This guy probably sails around with Ted Kennedy opposing the offshore windfarms because they are afraid they'll have to put their beverage down in order to take proper command of their vessel such that they miss the windmill!
Didn't this guy sleep with Barbara Walters too??? He should get a trawler!!!
Drama, Drama, Drama, At first, I was mad after reading this story. Now, it's just Geraldo being Geraldo.
The title "Sailing Disaster" wasn't. No one injured, no boat damage. Next, "...whatever could go wrong did." No, it was a typical sail, plan for the unexpected.
This was interesting. Big boat, professional skipper. "...Captain Kevin Overmeyer, Voyager’s professional skipper for the last six years..." "...a 70-foot, fifty-two ton boat being propelled just by the wind..."
This one got me mad. "Using just the sails, after four tries, I got her close enough in the choppy seas for Cruz to jump over the side, swim the twenty or thirty feet, jump on board and drive the dinghy back to Voyager." All I can say is any "man overboard" would be "lost at sea". A professional skipper should be able to do better, but Geraldo positioned it as a great effort.
After thinking about it, the skipper was concerned about starting the engine, because the dinghy could be recovered later. Geraldo's drama about recovering the dinghy was just that.
This was a non-event, but it got me thinking about Geraldo's dramatics. Which is exactly what Geraldo wanted. Russ (C250WB #793)
totally agreed. Were we in calm waters in the bay here and with no problems (eg engine was ok etc.) I would think 3 times before allowing someone to jump off and swim out to the dinghy. Not only was the dinghy not worth the value of a risked life, but it's value was naught at the bank account of the owner!
Oh, and the pro skipper allowed the sail with minimal fuel, Oh didn't get the tanks cleaned out, oh.. now it will magically start.
I heard he was going to film the opening of his fridge cause there was something mysterious in it. However, when he got the film crew together for the opening, and had all the lights on, he opened it and found nothing....
