As I sat in the parking lot of the Best Buy waiting for my 79 year old father as he shopped for ink cartrages the flag was standing straight out and the sky was blue. As I later sat in the parking lot of the Home Depot waiting for my daughter shop for wood for a pair of speakers we are building, the flag was still standing straight out and the sky was still blue. As I later, later, sat in the parking lot waiting for my wife to get out of work, the flag was still standing straight out and the sky was still blue..... now I am at work and I missed a full day of great sailing. CHeers.
I've been looking at flags all day, (actually I look at them everyday ) and you are right, today would have been an excellent day on the water. If it weren't for my family's obsession with things like "putting food on the table" and "a roof over their heads", I would of been out there. Sometimes they are a little selfish!
maybe it is better that Enka is 2.5 hrs away. i do not know what the weather is like by looking out the window. well, I look into a window and there is the NWS.gov. . . thunderstorms for the next three days; back to the food&roof thing.
Thankfully, pensions are taking care of the food and roof thing. My nephews' family is visiting at the beach, so we took them out for their 2 year old daughter's first sail. We clipped along (under the genoa alone, to reduce heel) for 1- 1/2 hours. 10 - 15 kts., clear w/ cumulus and slight whitecaps outside the bay! She enjoyed the experience, no fuss with the lifejacket. Welcome another member of the sailing family, relax and enjoy the day.
I was on vacation today and my Mom was in town for a visit. My wife and I took off of work and, yep you guessed it, we went sailing. Our flags weren't straight out, but we did have a mild breeze. It made for a great day, but only 4 hours of sailing. We had an easy time of it with the fastest being only 4.2 knots. So Mom and wife were happy. In fact, we had to motor some of the way back because the wind died.
Still all in all, it is like they say, it was better than a day at work
The weatherbug on my desktop says that the wind at National Airport is 5mph, blowing out of the South. We'll be out there racing in 9 hours and 18 minutes--but who's counting?
A 30 minute drive into work...I've apparently developed a habit of scouting for certain flags along the route. Fast food joint flags aren't bad...churches are even better...but those car dealership flags, man, some of those flags are big as some buildings...and the wind it must take to move those!
It's pretty funny...I'm at a stop light, head out my window, looking up into the sky. Seems a few other commuters around me have the same habit
