Ah, the memories! Catalina 25 Fleet 1 used to have a kite-flying race as part of our annual Delta Jamboree, some 28 years ago. My wife and I were sailing our first C25 in those days, and the Jamboree was the highlight of each year. Then the old gang broke up - some went to C30's, others (like us) moved away from the delta, and others simply went on to meet their maker. But the memories will last forever
Funny thing is, I've actually had a REAL seagull do that, although he wasn't quite as close and didn't flap his wings as much. He stayed about 10-15 feet off my stern, just coasting in the wash of my main sail. He must have stayed there about 15 minutes.
