I've been lurking for a while reading and learning about the C25. I figure it is time to say hi and introduce myself. This is a great board and everybody seems very helpful. I have been sailing over 30 years since I was about 12, mostly Escows, lightnings, interlakes Higlanders, sunfish and various other dingys. Currently I have 2 Escows a 90 and a 2001. I race the 2001 regularly until the last year or so because I have a 5 year old son and wanted a more family oriented boat for us to sail. I'm taking a breif break from the racing circut. I recently bought a 1982 C25. I have never sailed something so BIG. I have had it less than 2 weeks, I launched it last week with no troubles. I motored it to my slip and set the mast. I had no system to do said task other than a few people pulling on the jib halyard and pushing it up with brute strength. Having done it once I have figured a few things to make it easier next time.
I plan on taking it sailing this weekend with the boy, I'll probably have my mom go to help get things set this first time. I have never sailed it or any cruiser like it before, I'm very excited to say the least. We are planning to spend the weekend on her. I have a ton of questions so I will limit them to a few a day and I will try searching for my answers first, but I figure if I am wondering sombody else probably is as well.
Any way wish me luck and I'll report back as to my adventure later.

Welcome aboard Pete, I hope that we warrant joining our Association. Sometimes I thing that we fail to distinguish the difference between joining the forum and joining the Association, we hope everyone does both.
Hi Pete, welcome to the forum. I think that after all your experience with the little racers, you will find the c25 a rich experience. They are great boats and should sevre you and your son well. Cheers.
Yes I plan on sending my $20 bucks as soon as I can. I join most every association I sail with. I sent the form to my office to print out as my printer at home is not working.
The little racer comment made me laugh as my escow is 28 feet, but only 900 lbs. Check em out http://e-scow.org/
Pete, you will not plane downwind like the E and you cant tip the boat over as easy as the E (if at all). You will enjoy a Nice sail with a place to spend with your family. I also have a C Scow OK27 1987.

How fast are they? <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote"> The E-Scow is quite a machine--it basically planes all the time, even at 30 degrees of heel. I'd love to get back on one some day!
Welcome, Pete! The biggest difference (besides speed) I suspect you've already recognized is the care you must take around the slip or dock. It took me a little bit to get used to handling about 5500 pounds, especially with a standard prop, thru-hub exhaust, and 20" shaft, which all gave me very little backing/stopping power. I fixed that... (B.O.A.T.... Break Out Another Thousand!)
Welcome. Don't get too discouraged with the performance. The 25 can be raced at the PHRF and can win. You can also bring everything you need for a week! That for me is the real fun. Don't be afraid to ask anything and enjoy.
I have only been on the forum and in the association since April of this year. I can second your comment about the help you can get from everyone. I have had quick replies and have been treated well by all. Welcome to the 25 goup.
Pete, I live in Troy, just north of you and we sail "Leprechaun" on Grand Lake St. Marys,If I can be of help let me know, there are no dumb questions,If there are I have probably asked them! Welcome!
Welcome Pete! Looks like you have the best of both worlds now. You can get your speed fix from your Escow and your cruising fix with your C25. Just remember you don't have to hike on the C25 like you do on the Scow. (Though I have just for the fun of it!) And remember, we always like pictures of boats so bring em on!
Hi Pete, welcome to the group. I'm sure that with all your experience sailing the few questions we may answer will be greatly offset by your sailing skills.
