Yesterday Vicki and I took a friend of our son's sailing before she heads off to school in Atlanta. We had a good downhill run from Urbanna to Irvington, but then the storm clouds began to build and we motored the five miles back home into a building headwind. As lightning began hitting to our north, I ordered the womenfolks below, battened down the hatches and ports, and began taking seas over the bow. I got completely soaked -- but the wind and water were warm. For the first time, I really wished I had a dodger!

Below are some pics -- Towles Point on the Rappahannock as the storm was coming down the river, and Kate enjoying the sun on the foredeck before the weather closed in.

Great pics and sounds like youa'l had a great time. I like my dodger, but with more than two in the cockpit it gets in the way. The way mine is constructed, I can't fold in forward or backward so it is what it is all season long. Cheers.

I agree. I've been wanting to add one for a few years now.

A 30-year Lake Superior cruising veterean once told me while on a nine day LS cruise that I should do one of two things - get a bigger boat or get a dodger. Lake Superior can be much colder than the Rappahanock - 58 degrees at its warmest. The dodger will be my last big expense on Gallivant.

I am going to make a simple windscreen/dodger that connects to the bimini top. I don't intend on making a frame but may change my mind . I usually do that 2-3 times before I finish anything.

Tom.
