I have noticed on the newer C25s the front hatch cover is tinted lexan. Is this some thing that can be retrofitted on an older 82? Is it a worth while modification. I just think the extra light in side would be nice.

I have had both an 82 like yours and an 89 with the new Bowmar hatch. Don't do it, do not pay the almost $500 for the replacement from catalinadirect.com, the solar gain is unimaginable. I have a solar insulating cover being made now to cover the damn thing. The opening portlight in the quarterberth is a nice mod as are opening portlights in the head. Leave the bow in cool darkness.
Lying in my bunk forward I love seeing the stars through my lexan hatch. The nice thing about hatches is that they can be opened. If it gets too hot open the hatch.
I find the forward cabin too dark and love the light brought in by the lexan hatch. I live on the boat for weeks at a time and would certainly have a grim time with a dark old standard issue hatch.
And that point well taken too. I have a sunbrella cover coming which may allow me to love my hatch; because it is indeed nice to look out, and it opens very nicely.
Frank, my '89 came with a sunbrella cover over the hatch. It snaps on and protects it from the hot sun (we get hot sun up here in Central New York about 3 days a year!!). I don't know it the snaps on the deck were standard equipment, but the cover is great.
