No sir, this is the older style before they put the shackles on the base. The cleats leave very little room for hauling. I added a 4:1 purchase using harken micro blocks this year and I am pleased with the luff tension but would not mind if I had the shackle for the tack side. Since the sail is hauled to the top and the halyard is then secured, I downhaul the tack with the purchase. You guys probably find this hard to believe but I have taken very few pictures this year so I don't have a photo of the current setup.
Hi Pam, I had a Harken on my Merit 25, no comparison, the Harken is by far the better furler/reefer. I trailered my Merit for several season going to regattas in several states and never had an issue with it. I am pleasantly surprised with how well the CDI does on my 89 but is is simply not in the same league, nor was it designed to be. It does what it was designed to do very well. Both are bargains.
My CDI furler appears to be same as in photo above. By the way, the line (downhaul) to the jib clew just gave way the other day. I thought at first I had a tear in the jib but then as I was sailing and looking it over for awhile, I then saw it was an old line that just had worn out. I anchored, replaced the short line and was back on my way.
Frank - I can't believe you have taken very few photos this year ! You must be running out of things to take photos of ?
Thanks Frank. We were leaning toward the Harken, and you added additional confidence to that. You've never steered me wrong! Now if you ever need any advice on coolers just let me know!
Thanks for the great picture (although I don't quite understand what the cleated lines are for) - not important. What catches my eye is the grey Painted?? deck. Is it painted, and if so, what did you use to paint it? Looks beautiful.
