I just bought an 89 C25 with an 89 Suzuki 8HP outboatd. It sat for two years in storage and started on the fourth pull. I was impressed!! Anyway, I don't have any information whatsoever on the outboard and I was wondering if it has an alternator on it. It has some type of electrical-looking plug on the front of it but I'm not sure what its for. Even if it had an alternator, where would you plug it in to charge the batteries?

Just a couple of thoughts.

Make sure you have or do yourself, a carb rebuild. It may run but may run lean do to varnish. The oil injection system needs to be checked for proper operation. And lastly, the cooling system needs attention. A waterpump rebuild and thermostat inspecton are in order. If any of these are faulty, you will have a $2000 boat anchor. Nice boat BTW. That one has been for sale for a while.

Tom.

I have an '85 6 hp Suzuki, with a small alternator. It's wired to a plug, to disconnect when removing the motor, in the cockpit locker.

We have an 1988 Suzuki 9.9 Oil injection-electric start, that Came with "Leprechaun" . I believe it does have an alternator but have been told that the motor has to run like 20 minutes to replace what it takes to start the motor. I would agree with Tom, make sure the water pump/thermostat/cooling system are gone over. Its cheap insurance as compared to being stuck in a storm or not going out on a good day!We use synthetic oil in ours-thats what came in it-Pennzoil. The only down side so far is that parts have to be ordered from a "Dealer". Ours came with a manual. If I can answer questions from it for you I will.

What is the oil called? Is it just regular 2-cylce oil that you'd typically mix with the gas?

Your engine is an Oil Injection engine and there is a n oil reservoir inside the motor cover,in that I use Pennzoil Marine premium Plus Outboard 2 cycle oil Synthetic Blend You can buy it at West Marine or Marine stores. It meets or exceedes Suzuki manufacturers warranty TC-W3... :)

I had one on the Seaward 23 I owned for a season (too light for Lake Michigan) before moving to a C25. It was a 1990 and ran like a champ. I don't think the previous owner ever did anything to maintain it.
