I am the proud new owner of Antares, a 1985 C25 standard rig, fin keel and have been using the forum to become more knowledgeable, seek help, and get tips on how to improve my craft. Well, I just had a letdown. I was going to start saving those useless AOL CD's to use on my boat to scare the birds away. I have read where they are really affective.
Well wouldn't you know, AOL has decided to stop sending them out. And to think I have always filed them in my "round" filing cabinet over the years. Now I might actually have to buy something that works.
Mike Grand Lake, OK N.O. Catalina 25 #4849 In my opinion 75% of the earth is water for a reason. That's why I sail.
doesnt QT or Best Buy give them away? CompUSA will run an add every week of a free 50 pack of CDR Disc's, you might have to send in a rebate and wait for your money.
Got any Barry Manilow? (That's okay, you don't have to admit it here. I wouldn't either if I had any.)
Captain's Choice: Hang the CDs and keep the birds away or play the Cds and keep the passengers away.
I also read where somebody ripped the tape out of a casette, hung some of it from the spreaders and that worked well too. So, if you have any Barry Manilow cassettes.....
Decisions Decisions... I do have some Windows 3.1 discs around here somewhere, but they are on floppy disks. Wonder if the birds would be scared by them?
I put 12 CDs on several days ago. I had a CD format I could not use and never returned them. Anyway, it has been too hot for me to sail and coincidentally had to work some late days at work.
Today, I plan to sail and will check out the bird dropping count.
Capri25, Not to worry, I have plenty of old software CD's around that aren't getting any use. I was mostly commenting on AOL stopping their distribution. Of all the years I got those things in the mail wouldn't you figure that the year they stopped was the year I bought a sailboat and read about using them to scare off birds. Actually, there is a C-27 sitting in the slip next to mine and it gets most of the traffic. No one has been around since we bought ours in March and the birds even have a nest in the bimini cover. It's sad really, it is a great boat, but just slowly wasting away with non use.
