Finally put the stove back together after cleaning and replacing the fiber washer that goes between the stainless burner deck and the burner stem. I know many of you don't care for the alcohol stove but I wanted to see if I could get it to work. Filled the tank with 12 ozs. of alcohol (1/2 tank) primed 25-30 times and filled the bottom of the burner (depression around burner stem on SS)and lit to warm burner. I see bubbling around stem right where the stem comes through the stainless steel. Thought the burner assembly was one piece, how can it leak there? Of course, the burners don't light. Rather than going to Walmart for the $ 30.- replacement, any ideas??

Remember, the tray, the stove is in is still nice to keep, but the the rest will sink if you toss it overboard! Just kidding....about poluting the oceans..
The real issue is using pressurized alcohol. I figure the fire risk is not worth any???benefits. If your boat catches on fire because of a stove malfunction, getting out and walking are usually not an option. I use small propane bottles which have their own dangers but the stove will not leak fire down the back of it and run onto the floor. It also will not loose preheat and flare-up. I keep the bottles outside when not cooking and have the boat open when in use.
Look for a crack from over tightening or from water in system that froze. Had a line on my stove from the tank to one of the burners freeze and crack ; look under the stove. Copper tubing repaired with sleeve and sweat soldering.

Before he installed his stove-oven, John Vining used a single burner butane stove similar to the one in the West Matine catalog. He also had a Coleman oven to use with it - for making muffins of course. I was so impressed with the stove that I went out and got both. I also purchased a Coleman toaster. The stove and Coleman accessories work extremely well, store in a small space, and the fuel cannisters for the stove store safely on the boat. The whole set up is miles ahead of the old "curtain burner", and a much cheaper alternative to a $250 to $300 non-pressurized alchohol stove. The only drawback is that the stove does not come with a pot holder device to secure pots on the burner. I have saved the pot holder from my old stove and am installing it on the new stove.
