I have a 84 model with Hood roller furling. At the present time the furling line is lead aft thru fairleads on the stanchions to a cleat on the stern rail. I am not real happy with this setup. I thought of putting a cleat on the side of the coaming but would like to hear how others have handled this problem.

I also have a Hood furler. I have the cleat on the port side coaming. Just forward of the shore power inlet.

I chose the simple route with a stanchion mounted cleat that takes all of a minute to install. It also provides an out of the way place to stow the line.

I run my line along the stanchions through Harken Micro blocks, (Just because I already had them) and to a "Lance Cleat" on the coaming. I haul through a Ronstan Magic Ratchet with an 8:1 holding power. It is load sensitive so it freewheels when the load is light and really helps when the load is heavy. I also have a jam horn cleat on the sternrail for high wind cleating and for when I put her to bed.

I added an enclosed cam-cleat on top of the coaming.

Cam cleat on starboard coaming. Cam cleat for asymetric spinnaker tack line on port coaming.

We have the same setup, except at the bottom of the stantion where the cleat is mounted we have a block with cam (http://www.harkenstore.com/uniface.urd/scpdinw1.ShowProd?B4RPMEB9Y9A7N4). It holds the sail in until we cleat it. Very useful when trying to roll up in high winds because there is no slipping back out in between hauls.
