Gel batteries are good because they can't spill acid when the boat is heeled over. Gel batteries have slightly less amp hours. Gel batteries are very sensitive to overcharging. I have gels. I turn on up my battery charger once ever few weeks. Even though it has a float charging stage, I don't leave it charging for long periods of time. Works fine. Don't cook your batteries.
Installed the new gel cell this morning. The charger LED was steady red. This afternoon it was steady green. With my wet cell it pulsed green, indicating fully charged and standing by. May I assume this will also pulse eventually?
Per the Guest manual: "When the green LED turns on, your battery is already at or near full charge, and the charger is now maintaining the battery. If the green LED gradually fades on and off, this is an indication of an unusually efficient battery". So I guess my 50 buck wet cell was more efficient than my 180 gel cell
