I got the vinyl from my best friend ... he used to be in the outdoor advertising business. My buddy used to paint both sides of the sign face, so each one was used several times. Nevertheless, sooner or later he'd have to get a new vinyl and start over, and the old vinyls get tossed.
The downside is that they've got paint on them, but they are really strong. You might be able to buy an old one from an outdoor advertiser ... 'worth a shot if you're looking for a really tough boat cover.
