Have mounted the white life sling on the stern. Has anyone used one with success? We want to try a practice drill to prepare for the possible use, any suggestions? Have pulled a young woman into the boat who was too exhausted to use the ladder, my brother-in-law and I, and we used everybit of strength we had so this sling should be much better.
The Life Sling is only part of the rescue problem. You still have to get the person back into the boat. The sling is designed to be deployed and towed to the overboard person. You need a means of getting them into the boat. The Life Sling people make a block and tackle for the job. Since I have a rigid boom vang, I am using my old rope vang. I also use it as a preventer.
When we started sailing our dear friends and mentors lent us the Annapolis Seamanship dvd series. One of them has a demonstration of how to use a Lifesling to retreive someone, including rigging a block & tackle to the boom to hoist them aboard if they are incapacitated. Very good demo.
