This is an update just to say thanks for info requested in the past.

The bird preventers are working out great ! Not one bird turd since I installed the CDs above the lifelines back to the mast, a beach ball with big eyes up near the bow attached to the furling rig jib sheets and a plastic owl above the cockpit attached to the boom. Looks a little like a 3 ring circus !

I took advice received about style points regarding fender mgmt and detached my fenders that were on the lifeline, stored them away. I first used a taut rope between the finger slip cleats (one at each end)and from that attached new fenders (the Taylor ones that you can slip the line thru it to hang horizontally) onto the mid point of the taut rope. I found that the taut rope stretched too much and rather than get a rope made of matl that would be less prone to stretch, I opted for buying cable (and a turnbuckle) at the Boat US store and substituted it for the taut rope. No stretch and fenders hang perfectly off the finger slip. (My marina does not allow me to make any permanent attachments onto the slip and so that is why I could not install a clip or extra cleat at the finger slip mid-point.)

Now I pick up those style points for not sailing with fenders attached to the lifelines and laying on the mid-decking and also not having to have bird turd mine field that required lot's of elbow grease to remove stains.

Tonight at 1159pm, they are blowing up the old span of the Wilson bridge which is close to the south side of the Washington beltway. if you look at a map of the Washington DC, MD and VA area, the Wilson Bridge crosses the Potomac to the south of where I keep my boat. I pondered staying out on the boat and watching this event tonight but wimped out because it is during workdays and...well just wimped out. I'll catch it on tv. They were going to keep boats away from that area anyway. I was out on Saturday 9all day) and went south under the old span and the half of the new span that is already operating. I was out the whole day with variable light winds and along with the tide made it a bit hard to tack back home. But it was a nice sailing day.
