Didn't yell, kept calm, had 15 gusting to 20 so just sailed with the jib, never went over 10 degrees heel, had cold drinks and food onboard.....She still does not look 100% comfortable but I'm working on her......on the way home she asked if bigger boats feel so out of control and if not, maybe we should look into a bigger boat....I'm keeping her!!!

I am in the same boat..pun intended But about 3 weeks ago, we were sitting and watching TV and she says: "Can we move closer to the lake?" I thought I would never here that. So we are meeting with a builder in a couple of weeks and also contacting a real estate agent in an area closer. And my wife spends all evening looking at real estate agent's websites.

She gets a new house and you get to go sailing more!
Sounds like a win-win situation to me!

Dennis-

Maybe you can give your wife sailing lessons for Christmas (or her birthday or something). She may feel much more in control if she knows how the boat works & is at the helm. I'm glad things are going well for the sailing part of your life together.

Hi Cathy, we are moving out of this marina and joining the North Star Sail Club over the winter. They have a very active womans sailing and racing group which includes lessons, so yes, she will be learning how to sail next year. They use little Lazer type boats so it should be fun. Cheers.

I've been working on my Admiral for over ten years and she still can't get over 10 degress without experiencing a panic attack!

I've been the one having the panic attack! Three things got me over it: 1)We installed a clinometer, so I could quantify my panic; 2)I got on the helm with just the main in light wind and learned how to control the boat until I got bored and wanted to add the jib. Then I wanted to sail with both sails and more wind. This didn't happen overnight, but Dave is patient 3)I looked at the face of a clock and realized that 30 degrees of heel means the mast is only pointing at the 5 minute mark. It put it in perspective. The disquieting sensation is that the deck goes from 3 o'clock to 4 o'clock. Last year's goal was to overcome hysteria, this year is to single-hand for an overnighter - sail out, anchor, sail in & dock. That's next month

My wife quit sailing 15 years ago. She didn't like the heel or the idea that we were in water 200 feet deep while heeling. She has this fear of falling off I guess. Anyway, out of the blue she suggested going sailing last weekend. There was a light breeze so I took her out with genoa only. We've been out twice since and seemed to really enjoy it. She will never go out for some real sailing but I am content. Who says a marriage can't improve after 35 years?
