Planning for upgrades for next season. Looking for the best, reliable, least expensive GPS/Depth combo unit for our C25. Recommendations?

Humminbird Matrix 10 with GPS
The transducer shoots through the hull with no problem.
I got mine on ebay for about $140 with GPS.
Only shortcomming is poor compass display modes.

IMHO #1 Get a unit with at least basic chartplotter (basemap) functions. Having your position displayed on a map is well worth the extra money, especially in unfamiliar waters.

IMHO #2 My next unit will be color. Much easier to read in daylight.

All that said, I am very happy with the performance of my Lowrance GPS/Charplotter.

Bruce,

I am interested in the device that you are using. What did you do for a transducer. My quick look at the site shows what appears to be a transom mounted transducer....

Similar question for you Frank, as I am not familiar with the Humminbird products.

If you sail with charts then I am sure a chartplotter would be the right thing to do, I am on a lake.
unit mounted outside.

GPS inside and wiring

the transducer is epoxied to hull behind stairs, took 10 minutes to install it.

I used a chunk of 'Wax Bowl Ring Seal' (Very sticky wax that seals a toilet to the drain pipe). Smoosh the transducer down into the wax and Bob's your uncle. Lasted several years just fine now...

I mounted my Humminbird Matrix 17 on a RAM Swing Arm and covered up the large depth finder bulkhead hole with a Starboard circle. Transducer mounted in VBerth area using a toilet bowl wax ring. Works great. Photos (Large) and details on my website. Hope some of these photos post:
