A couple of weeks ago, we raised our mast back to the vertical position after adding a furler. All of the shrouds and stays are once again tight and the mast is straight side to side. I still have to plumb it, but that should not present much of a problem. One item I forgot was to re-tighten the maststep pivot bolt. It has a wingnut on it and I was wondering if hand tight is sufficient, or should I apply more pressure using a wrench and channel locks?
Not sure if it makes any difference, but we have a 1985 C-25 Standard rig.
Mike Grand Lake, OK N.O. Catalina 25 #4849 In my opinion 75% of the earth is water for a reason. That's why I sail.
PO didn't use a bolt. When he raised and lowered, he stuck a screwdriver in there. When he got his standing rigging secure, he pulled the screwdriver out.
First item I ordered from CD was the proper bolt and wingnut. The person I spoke to at Catalina told me essentially what dlucier wrote above.
Yep, furler is on and the sail has been cut down with Roger restitching the sunbrella cover. Still have to get back to the boat and hoist the new sail, but as you probably have seen in another thread, we are headed to a wedding this weekend. Will get to it in another week or so. Then all this year's projects are done and it is sailing time The weather is just about perfect now.
