We previously discussed trying to maintain our boats without causing harm to the waterways we love and enjoy. I put the question some time ago to the local director of our water quality board, who also is a sailor. This mornig he sent me the following link (at 6:45 on a Sunday morning! - he is trying to get free to set sail for Mexico).
I have not tried any of these ideas. I have never noticed borax in the store and wonder how you would obtain some. Some of them seem of dubious value but I guess I can't critisize them unless I have tried it.
Ah, memories of the "20 Mule team Borax Hour"... announced by Ronald Reagan and sponsored by 'Boraxo'... hmmm... haven't seen that product in years. (haven't been looking tho)
I've used 20 Mule Team borax for years as an insect repellent. Always got it in the laundry section at the supermarket. If that fails, most drug stores carry boric acid, which is about the same thing, only a little more expensive, as I recall. When we built a house in New Orleans, I put drugstore boric acid under all the cabinets, tubs and in all the walls. Kept the roaches out, which is a minor miracle in New Orleans.
