We had a discussion a little while back regarding painting verses re-gelocating - of which I am a proponent of the latter. I stated that when I had my transom reinforced they sprayed the gelcoat (using a Preval) and it cured without any type of covering. Apparently I didn't notice that when they applied what I thought was another (and final) coat of gelcoat, it was actually polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), or mold release wax. After the gelcoat cures the PVA comes off with water so you can proceed with sanding and polishing the gelcoat. Three years later and my transom still looks like a mirror <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle> !
