Tim O'Connell, the former owner of Coquette, the Capri 25 he beefed up for offshore solo racing has joined our Yahoo group. This guy has a wealth of experience not only on the Capri, but 30 years of racing worldwide.
If you haven't been to the Yahoo group in a while, stop by and see what Tim has to say. Pick his brain!
Hi Tim, I don't luff but I will pinch occasionally. As Commodore of this association I have a practical question to ask. We have tried for over a year to attract the WYC members to our association. We felt it was not right for the Capri 25 to be as orphaned as it has become on a national level. We are going through a two year integration period because we admire and respect the work that WYC has put into providing for the regional Capri 25s. We do not want to devalue that organization but we do want to see the boat make a comeback on a national level. The best way for that to happen is for the Capri forum to become as active as our other forums. This is an amazing association which has added real value to the boats we represent. We want to do the same for the Capri. We have several new members a month who tell us they picked one of our boats to buy because of how strong this association is. If this Capri forum becomes as active as the other forums the value of used Capri 25s will rise and the boats will become more popular. I was a Merit 25 owner and the Capri 25 is only marginally more visible on a national level. We want to help but we can only help when real expertise and experience is behind this forum. In the last year we have only attracted a few sailors, each of them terrific assets. We are the officially recognized national Capri 25 association, we have a chief measurer as a board member, a tech editor who will have a regular quarterly column in the Catalina Mainsheet magazine, and we welcome Capri contributions to the features column as well. This body of sailors has tremendous knowledge about Catalina product maintenance and resources, we run a fine Nationals regatta program; 04 Portland Oregon, 05 Wichita Kansas, 06 Cleveland Race Week. In 07 we are returning to Cleveland Race Week. Our racing discussions tend to be on our General Forum, currently the discussion is whether the swing or fin is better to weather, a deep knife vs a long chord foil. So please become active everywhere in this site, visit all the forums, contribute as you can and enjoy one of the finest communities on the web.
lee was asking about the yahoo group I am sure with 16 post and reading skills he does realize that the association is here. I still feel that there are major items that have been looked over, and just passed up. This is why Matt said move on nothing to see here. If this was about a 25, I am sure that a response from you would have been faster than 6 days.
