Its been soooo windy around here for the past couple of days that all the water here in western Lake Erie has shifted to the the other side of the lake. My coaming is around 5' below the top of my dock and the water level in my slip is around 1 or 2 feet. I was supposed to haul out today at 2:00pm, but with my fin keel sunk a foot or two in the mucky bottom, I've had to reschedule until the tide rolls back in.
I sailed for 6 hours today in great wind, came in and took my sails off and am spending my last night of the season on the boat. Low water. I will drop my mast tomorrow and probably be in the driveway tomorrow afternoon; a month earlier than last year.

Well it's warm here today and I pulled out yesterday as the marina closed today. Had a lot of pangs as it was tough to pull out with two more days of great sailing but .. I have waited too long before and the ramp has been slick with snow. Our lake is still very high because of GW? Boat is tucked in the shed with a list of things to do before the cruise to the San Juans in June. The hull is setting straight on the trailer and the rig is tied for the cruise so I am almost ready. I wonder what else the Forum will remind me to do for this winter. Hummmm, yes the heater so I can set in the boat. Hope you all have a great winter cruise on the hard.
I understand. I went to pull my boat out last Thursday, and the 30+ wind, 30F temperature and snow in the companionway made me realize that maybe the Universe was giving me a hint...
I once read about a sailing club in Boston where they only cancel the races when the wind speed is higher than the temperature. Now I know what they mean!
I'll try again tomorrow - supposed to hit 60 with light wind. One last chance, I guess.
Season is longer here in the Northeast than last year. I never got to sail in October because of the rain. This year, I'm not scheduled to haul until Novemeber 6th. This year for the first time the boat is coming to my house. I can't believe how expensive it is to store boats in Maine. It's cheaper for me to pay to have it moved here and then back in the spring than to leave it there.

I got hit with sticker shock this month. My monthly slip fee went from $137.50 to $264.70 !! So I might be hauling out myself.
