Here is a fish story. I went out today for a little fishing in Mill Cove behind the house. Bonnie stayed home so I was by myself. I set four poles out with finger mullets. After about maybe ten minutes something was hitting a little bit away from the Green Meany, our fourteen foot John Boat I was in. I thought it must be the biggest Redfish ever. Then it hit my pole. But it did not run like a Red. Finally I got a glimpse of it and it was a shark! It measured about forty-five inches. I played it for at least fifteen minutes thinking to myself "I have to land this one or Bonnie will never believe it!" We see porpoise in the cove all the time even though it is only four feet deep and that is at high tide. The last time I caught a shark I was a kid. So I had to get online and search for how to clean one. I'm going to have to buy a bigger knife!
Shark meat is excellent! Be sure to soak the fillets in some water and baking soda before cooking. Sharks excrete ammonia through their skin and it will give the meat a bitter taste. (gets into the meat during the filleting process)
That definitely looks like a bull shark. Bull sharks are the only shark species that can be found in fresh water and have been found pretty far up the mississippi and other large rivers! I bet you will think twice of "Wade Fishing" in that area, huh?
