This is my first attempt at sending a video I made from our video camera of us sailing. This is a Saturday sail. We were heading North on lake Eufaula, which is located between SW Georgia & SE Alabama. Lake Eufaula is ~26 miles long & 1-2 miles wide. Winds were out of the NW at ~10 knots. We spent the night on the lake. There was a beautiful full moon, which we saw rise on the water, right after we saw the gorgeous sunset. We woke up to <2 knot winds, directly out of the North, so we sailed South, wing on wing. We would have been happy to share that video, but it is still sideways, and we didn't want to make y'all dizzy!!! We hope you enjoy the video and we feel sorry for those of you who are having to pull your boats for the winter; we are just beginning our sailing season. We bought our boat 2 years ago and still don't have sailing down as well as some of you, but we love every minute of it. Since we don't have the link come up properly, please cut & paste this into your web browser:
Great video and...camera ! Colors came out real good. I got a little seasick when the video was turned in the vertical but otherwise...I had a good time enjoying your sail !
Thanks for the comment. Can't figure out how to turn video when camera is turned on end. Just turned monitor on its side and didn't get to dizzy. The head sail was a 150 that I had Sail Care cut down to a 135 and add the sunbrella cover. They cleaned the sail also. They did a great job. Sail is as good as new!!!
LARRY, AS A DIE HARD RACER!!! I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MY NEXT PLACE TO RACE, ESPECIALLY IN THE WINTER. DO YOU HAVE OR BELONG TO A YACHT CLUB? WOULD YOU CONCIDER SPONSORING AN CATALINA 25 ASSOCIATION CRUISING WEEK END FOR OUR MEMBERS. AS ONE OF THE ASSOCIATION OFFICERS WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR SOME WHERE TO ORGANIZE A WINTER RONDEVUE (SP?)FROM WHAT I SEE IN THE VIDEO A 26 MILE LONG LAKE IN THE SOUTH SOUNDS LIKE FUN TO ME, ESPECIALLY OVER THE HOLIDAYS. LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE WILLING TO HELP COORDINATE SOMETHING LIKE THIS
Kewl vid Larry. I really like the multi colored jib. My slipmate has a straight rainbow jib that came with the boat years ago. I told him that the straight rainbow is the new gay symble and now he wants to dump it.....I should have kept my big mouth shut. Cheers.
Would love to set something up. Don't know crap about racing and there is no yacht club as very few sailboats on this lake. We do have a great facility at George T. Bagby state park, which is located on south end of lake on Georgia side. Has marina, lodging, food, and golf. you can email me with details as to what is involved and if there is interest and I believe I can get set up. Email address is bob@slingluffunited.com. You can check out park and lake by googling Georgia state parks. Click on find a park and go down to George T. Bagby link. Regards!!
Wow, What a facility!! I will definitly be in contact with you. For anyone who may be interested in a Mid Winter sailing rondevue please feel free to let me know! It appears that Bama Sailor has a hidden meca for the winter sailor. How many C-25 are on you pond?
This a great idea but will end up being a regional event - much like the "nationals", which is not a problem either. John Vining and I have been trying to encourage folks to come up to Northern Michigan for the last couple of years to sail Lake Superior, northern Lake Huron, or northern Lake Michigan. We will probably try for Isle Royale this summer unless something else comes up. John says he has two other boats that want to go. The more the merrier of course.
Al, that is an excellent idea and I will gladdly show up if we can do it say the first week of August. That was going to be a suggestion I was going to make also. As far as a regional event, that is about the only way we can really do things is to have members in their areas come up with posted/scheduled events for people to look forward too. If we get enough events, I'm sure we can start posting dates with a sticky format to keep them on the forum. At the next board meeting I will see what we can do to make a nice "events" posting on the form. As much as I like to travel with my boat, if these events are with in a 1000 miles (one day drive) I will try and make most of them.
