I've been quite busy making a land deal and finely signed the contracts so I can rest now until we close. I've managed to find 6 acres on the water in a protective creek on the Pamlico River in the outer banks region of NC.
I'm thinking I'll tow the boat there in the spring for a week to scout things out, maybe make a trip across the Pamlico Sound to Ocracoke Island.
Question for you Pamlico River sailors out there... Is there a ramp in the Washington, Bath, Belhaven area that would handle launching a 250 Wk?

1997 250 TR WK (sold)
1984 O'Day 28 (sold)
1979 SISU 22
Bath, NC.

Tom,

Congrats on your purchase. There's nothing like having your boat moored or docked in front of your own piece of property. It makes life so much easier.

Tom,

Can't you help with ramp info.

But my daughter is going to East Carolina University (UNC) and I am sometimes down that way to visit. This is her senior year, so those trips will be coming to an end soon. We were just at the town dock in Washington about a month ago and last Spring or so, we visited Beaufort and did a bike ride around that area.

Seeing how we seem to go to the Outerbanks for summer vacation every year, I envy the nice area you sail in Pamlico Sound. The only times I have actually been on the Sound was once when I brought my inflatable canoe and canoed around the Outerbanks - Corolla area and also we once took the free ferry (with our car) and ferried from the Washington area across the Sound and then went back from there to the University.

Hi Tom,
First there is a pretty good web site that has every marina, ramp, fuel dock in NC listed (http://www.ncwaterways.com/). They even have a downloadable PDF map thay shows marinas, ramps and markers. You can't nav by ut but I have planned using it since it does not have those pesky page breaks.

We have a few 25 footers in NC. We are in Oriental and I know there are 3-4 more around. We sailed to Ocracoke at least once during the NSA (Neuse Sailing Association) cruise and Square Knot was there. I don't know if Scott has been there again since. Post here when you are coming over and maybe you can be the cause celebre for the first-ever Pamlico 25-footer gathering.

Thanks Nadi, that site should get me started finding a ramp. Like I said in my other post we are planning a trip up your way in the spring, I'll give you a shout when we confirm a date. I see you've been to my home town... Southport.

Tom,

Try McCotter's Marina or Broad Creek Marina or Sam's Boatyard in Washington, NC, all on Broad Creek.

Not sure about Bath but I beleive Belhaven should have a suitable ramp.

Good luck and welcome to the Pamlico,

Bill

Belhaven would be great, I'm only about 20 minutes from there. I'll check it out.

Tom,

If you haven't found a suitable ramp yet contact Ricky Radcliffe at Radcliffe Marine, Inc. in Belhaven (252)943-3923. He's done service/repair work on my Honda several times and he will know what's available in the area.

Bill
