Okay, I am looking for a good idea on a mast cradle for the stern of my new (to me) Catalina 25. I want something that can be dropped down for trailering and raised while under tarp on the hard. Below is the boat the first day home. As you can see the mast cradle could use some improvements. You will need to copy and paste this link into IE.
I simply used a length of 2x4 (4 or 5'?) that had a V-shaped piece of plywood screwed to the end to hold the rear of the mast. This piece of wood rested on the cockpit sole and was lashed to the traveller and the top of the stern pulpit. I also put a 1ft length of 2x4 in the mast step to support the center of the mast.
Hi Don, do you only use those two points? I have to do a major rebuild of my bow this winter and do not want anything, like a mast support, in my way. Cheers.

No, Dennis. My mast rests on a board over the bow pulpit, the center support at the mast step, and then to the board lashed to the stern pulpit, which is fairly standard stuff.
Thanks for the picture Frank. I can see that the majority of the mast will be supported by the stern pulpit and mast board while I am doing the repairs to the bow. I am going out to the boat today, not to sail, but to clean up after a great two weeks of fall sailing. I am going to bring my digital camera and take pics of all the things I've done to the boat and the damage I need to repair in the bow. Cheers.
Could you post some close up pictures of the mast cradle you use. That would be so helpful in designing one to fit my new boat. Here is the picture of how I received it.
