In tech tips COKIE BEAR has some drawing for a spring assist on the outboard bracket. Also Haven Baker name is mentioned on the single spring drawing. Has anyone done one of these modifation and how did it work? Did you have to make any change? I bought the sinfle spring but I want to hear from some people before I start drilling holes
A single spring if you have a 9.9 outboard I have found is not enough, I use a two spring assembly on mine which allows almost hands free operation. This is important especially when the boat is under sail power and you need to lift the motor while still underway. Try adding two springs. Catalina Direct will be able to help you match what you need, that's where I got mine.
I put the single spring on my bracket. Bought it at home depot as well as a small metal hose clamp. Used the hose clamp to attach spring to the cross piece on my bracket. Before installation lifting motor was a "Back Breaker". Can now lift motor with one hand.GREAT RESULTS!!!!
