The Admiral has approved a spring loaded mount for our 8hp 4 stroke. Naturally I've looked at the Catalina Direct and West Marine units and can't decide between the two, although I suspect the mounting holes have a better chance of lining up w/ the existing holes from the manual bracket... Anyone with an opinion or experience to share? Best to all for the Holidays!
The Garhauer 3 spring mount worked well for our Nissan 9.8, which weighs about 82lbs. After verifying that the existing mounting holes lined up (elongated the pair closest to the centerline by 1/2 inch), we added the starboard to strengthen the transom. The project went very well, thanks to the comments posted by others, as mentioned above. We are pleased with the ease of use and the quality of the mount.
I have a Garelick heavy duty salt water model. I had to modify it to get it to lower down even more. The Garhauer mount wasn't available at the time. If I were to buy one now I would get the 4 spring Garhauer for my heavy Honda. The Garhauer has the greatest range of motion, and most importantly, it's range below a level plane.
I have a garhauer mount which I put out to the garbage last night but decided to bring back in this morning, I had upgraded to the 4-spring when I purchased my 9.9 last year. You are welcome to it if you like.
With help from the Forum I chose the CD 4 spring Gargauer for the Honda 15hp and it didn't line up but two holes from the orginal so I made plugs and installed as directed. Because of mounted on the port side couldn't use the CD backing plates but installed aluminum angle, 5/16", with SS bolts, 2 1/3 and 3" long. (yes, I have to replace the boot this winter for the controls) http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6cc26b3127cce8fad3dc13e4200000016100AZs2jZkzbMWKA
Val, it is a single springer, so I don't think it would be of much use to many people. It was also bent up a little from prior owners and used to give me problems locking and unlocking in place. I have decided to mount it to the wall and use it for storing my motor during the winter.
