Henk and Tom:
I am sorry that I can't send pictures now. I was just released from the hospital for pneumonia which was result of chemo therapy. I will be on a short mooring line for a few days before I can send pictures. The boom bag is made of Navy Captain,Sunbrella. I had it custom made and I think it cost $125. It is simply a rectangle that is twelve to sixteen inches longer than the boom and approximately 48 inhes wide. With bag open, it looks like a sleeping bag that has large zippers that start one each end and zip toward the center. The bag has web straps and D rings that are sewen to it. The spacing of the straps correspond to the distance between the lifeline standards. I simply unzip the bag, open it up and lay it out on the deck next to the mast. I detach the rigid vang, tie it off and fold it up against the boom. I wrap and tie off the vang sheet around the boom to hold it in place. If I am putting the boat away for the winter, I remove the battens and main sail. Most the time I leave everything on the boom. If you do, make sure that your battens are flat prior to tying off the sail. I then slack the main halyard and tie it off. I removed the front of the boom from the mast and set it in the open bag prior to releasing the halyard. I center the boom in the bag, zip the zippers and slide the bag and boom over to the supports for the lifeline standards and I lock the d rings to the lifeline standards. If I am traveling very far, I keep the boom and bag snug to the standards with bungee cords. I will send a picture when I can.

Thanks Robert, seems simple enough. I hate dragging that boom below. I've got a nice scratch on the head door complements of the boom.
Thanks for the idea, I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation... I'm staying right now in the Marina Village, Mission Bay, San Diego and have located almost next to were we have the slip a canopy/sail maker and will, if you don't mind copy your idea. Hopefully this will eliminate the chafing we experienced on the way South...
Hope your health will improve and will be feeling better soon

Thank you for your nice thoughts. Ofcourse, I don"t mind if you use my idea. The sharing of ideas is the real poower of this web site.
I neglected to note in my description of my bag is that I tapered the aft end of the bag. Although it looks a little cleaner, I am not sure that the taper is a good idea because it limits your flexiblity and I have stuffed other soft items in the boom bag.
