Here's a quick and simple mod for your swim ladder. Take a piece of small line about 6 feet long. Tie one end of the line to the rounded part of the ladder latch. Then tie the other end of the line around the second to the bottom step on the ladder. But before you tie the knot, adjust the length of the line so that when the ladder is down the line is tight enough to pull the latch down which will keep the latch from sticking out in the walk through.
Now if ever you fall overboard you can swim around and pull the line to the ladder latch and the ladder will come down. Climb aboard and using the same line you can pull the ladder up without having to get down on your knees and bend over to grab the ladder.
In the picture below, you can see my ladder is down and the small line is holding the latch out of the way.
