I picked up a copy of Virtual Skipper 3 as a gift to myself. Although they've come out with a version 4 the version I have is pretty neat. I noticed from our Amazon Affiliate links that there were at least 4 copies sold to our members over the past quarter.
I have a few questions regarding the game and I also would like to have a Catalina group regatta online if anyone is interested!
Can anyone answer my questions and are there any takers on the regatta?

I don't think so....Since 3 was so cheap I am considering going right to 4.
the application is pretty amazing and definitely a fix for the sailing jones in the winter. Every once in a while it will pop up in the Amazon box to the left for 9.99.
For those of you who haven't seen it, you can check out their website here:
There's a group over at SA that plays regularly, or at least used to. Someone set up a server for it. Do a search and PM the individuals in the thread, maybe have more luck getting a group play going.
Duane, I've got VSK3, had it for about a year and a half, and would love to get some online racing going! Anyone else interested, I encourage you to pick up a copy. I should be able to answer any of your questions, so fire away. I do not know if it's compatable w/ version 4, but I doubt it.
Looks like VS 4 ($45) came out in 11/2005 and fixed some problems with VS 3($10). I am inclined to get VS 4 to be most current and supported. (unless the competition stays on 3).
I would love to do some virtual racing, good practice for Cleveland. Maybe we could catch Longwind, Red Sled and The Flying Wasp
Based on the different locations featured I doubt that 3 and 4 are compatible for on-line play.

I've been trying to get my local club members to try RC racing in our university pool for years with negative results. This sounds like a decent alternative to pass the winter. Who will make the decision on V3 or V4 so I can get a copy.
After checking out the VSK 4 website and a couple blogs, it sounds like the main updates over 3 are graphics, more course selections, and the ability to create custom boats. My only knock against this similator is it doesn't account for dirty/clear air- which I was hoping the new version would include. Without shadows, the downwind sailing is a bit boring. I've not found anything out there alluding to this improvement, but I'm going to have to try the demo and find out.
I've tried both versions. I can run 3 fine. Version four is a problem for my computer. I can sail but the speed-log, etc, are blurry and unreadable. I'm assuming it's my graphics card, although I might need a driver update.
Unitl I can figure out the problem, any racing for me would have to be with version 3.
Here are the instructions (as promised) to setting up VSK3 and getting your own server for the game so you all can play at one location, have regattas, ect. It would be interesting to see if I could make a Catalina 25 boat for VSK3. I know that all of the tips are out on the net.
I have VSK4 on my Notebook here at the house so, If there is any interest in getting a VSK4 race going lets talk. The main difference between 3 and 4 are the graphics, If you are having any problems with getting the program running check your settings. I use the least amount of graphics possible. I am running on a P4 box, with 128 megs of ram for graphics and 10 gigs free of HD Space.
If there is a push for VSK3 I will be happy to go out and buy another copy, I have misplaced my older copy somewhere???
I tried reducing the graphics settings in v.4 but with no result. I wonder if it's an idiosyncracy of the demo. Everything but the background, and bouys is fuzzy and unreadable. Even the print in the settings is fuzzy. I haven't tried a driver update yet but my guess is it's the demo.
Al, I installed the demo before I purchased VSK4, The problem is going to be with your card. What kind of card do you have? On my notebook I get a driver update message before the game starts, for the life of my I can not find any update to the card I have thru Gateway. If you are running on a box, then an upgraded card or driver is going to be necessary to getting the game to work.
