I haven't been on the water for over a month and finally the weather cleared on Sunday and 'the admiral' and I went out Sunday afternoon for our first sail of the year. It was a wonderful, relaxed sail with winds about 10kts and temps in the mid 60s, and very little waves or chop. The sky was incredibly clear and crisp without a cloud to disturb all the blue. I clamped down the tiller, we kicked back and headed out on beam reach and had our lunch. We watched a race go by with spinnakers flying, admired the views and congratulated ourselves on our good choice. It had been too long!

As others go out on their first sail of the year please let us know how it is!

It was really warm over the holidays in Daytona Beach and I was lucky enough to get out twice, on the 30th of December and again on New Years day. Both days had temps in the low 80's, south winds at about 10 kts and a light chop on the Intercoastal Waterway. Ponce Inlet is about 10 miles from the dock so wasn't able to get outside but the Intercoastal is mostly quite wide locally and is still a fun sail. I just felt blessed that I could be out sailing when I know so many folks don't have that option this time of year.

Here in the "snowy" northeast, the sailors are frustrated and the skiers are frustrated--last weekend was 70 deg. rainy, and of course all boats are on the hard. A few paths of manmade snow remain on some ski slopes, but you'll be skiing on gravel as much as on snow. Cherry blossoms are appearing in Connecticut--in early January!

Crazy!

I am just waiting for two things to happen here. 1.A good weather day with warm temps and light winds....and 2.For it to happen on the weekend. Still have to show up at the office 5 days a week. This weekend the forecasters are calling for and ice storm on Saturday, followed by snow/rain on Sunday. Looks like the NFL playoffs will be on the agenda here.

Cleaned carpets all day Friday (honey due). Took boat out Saturday and found a race just off Oyster Point. Tagged along for fun but breeze was pretty light and then disappeared altogether. Rafted up with the committee boat who I regularly race against in the Beercan Races and just gammed in the Sunny warm day as we bobbed away at anchor waiting for the last guy to give up trying against the current in no wind.

Was out New Years Eve Day up here in the NW, cloudy w/ sprinkles, about 37 degrees, 10-12 knots, 5 adults and 4 kids under the age of 6- how does that sound for a good time? Don't have to worry about keeping the beer cold, that's life on Puget Sound!

I was out Saturday on the Potomac on a friend's S2 7.9. It was 72 degrees with ten knots of breeze. A real treat for January. Today it's a more seasonable 37 degrees.

I drove my Dad from Michigan to Kissimmee Florida on New Years eve morning and we arrived at 5pm New Years Day. I stayed for a week and had every intention of contacting a member for a sail or at least rent a boat for a day, but my Dad was in and out of the Dr. office with what turned out to be Syatica (sp) and so I drove him everywhere while I was there. Oh well. Cheers.
