Jim, There was an piece in the Mainsheet a couple issues back about covering the defective vinyl with an electrical shrink material. It was the August 2001 issue on page T15. Let me know if you need a copy and I will scan it for you.
I put netting on our boat. I got it from WM. I think it looks good. Problem is that there is a nice stout cable running thorough the tops of the stanchions, but nothing along the bottom. This causes some scalloping and probably loss of effectivness. I was going to get some line and run it along the bottom from stanchion to stanchion this week end, but we went to the water slide instead. Will let you know if it works. Also will try and get some photos to post.
My lifelines were old and ratty looking, but I didn't want to shell out the money to replace them. I hadn't heard of the heat shrink tubing trick, so I did something different. I went to a hardware store and purchased some white tubing to slip over the lifelines. The outside diameter is just a little too big to fit through the holes in the tops of the stanchions, so I had to cut the tubing into pieces that fit between pairs of stanchions. It looks much better, and the tubing cost less than $7.
Mike ... I wasn't getting the "Mainsheet" back in August ... would you mind sending me a copy of that article? My email address is buzzmaring@aol.com ... thanks!!!
