I was looking at tech tips on spinny stuff and at the photos in the galleries. I know for a symmetrical spinnaker the sheets go to the back of the boat. In the photos of those flying an aysmmetrical it look like the sheets are going to much the same place as the regula 150 gennie. Is this correct<img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hi Matt,

The placement of the spinnakar sheet blocks will depend upon the size of the spinnaker. Some of the manufacturers of "inexpensive" cruising chutes are making them "undersized" in the 165% to 170% size range. If this is so, then the blocks need to be forward near the winches.

If though you have a full 180% assymetrical spinnaker, the sheet blocks will be located about a foot or so forward of the aft mooring cleat.

Harken makes a fitting that will allow mounting their standard small block on a 1" stauchion post. I think it's their 1.25" series, it fits a 5/16" or 3/8" line. I have put one on each side of the forward end of the stern pulpit. This is maybe about 16" or so behind the main winches. I keep them low on the post, close to the deck. This keeps the bending force on the post quite low.

The blocks have worked fine for about 8 years now. They are undersized by some people's calculations, but I have sailed the chute in winds really too strong for it, even putting the boat flat to the water at times. The blocks have never failed, so I feel the size is OK.
