I have noticed that when accessing the Boat US website that it redirects me to West Marine. Can someone explain the relationship. I ran across something like this in my previous hobby R/C flying. There were 2 mega-distributors Tower and Horizon and for many of the products, one or the other carried them, but not both. Is this similar?

Boat US Headquarters is still Boat US. It is located on pickett St in Alexandria, VA. The retail store at Boat US Headquarters is same size as the other West Marine Stores and is now a West marine Store but retains the Boat US name. many may not relaize this but the Boat US graphics for boat names, etc acessed via their website is actually adjacent to the Boat US store and has a slide window for customers that come directly to the Boat US store and want graphics service.
I think it was just last year that the BoatUS store just down the road from me was renamed to "West Marine". Now there are two West Marine stores in my city, both within five miles of my house...I not sure if that's a good or bad thing!

True enough - the brick & mortar stores rarely seem to have what I'm looking for, especially w/ respect to rigging h'ware, the online store has never let me down though.
