One of the upgrades for this spring is to replace the wire rope/line halyards (and masthead sheaves)with an all line assembly. I've read a bunch about which type of line to get, but can't decide between double braid or parallel core. Any thoughts from the Forum? As always - many thanks!
That depends on how much you're concerned about stretch. I got high-tech halyards from Cat Direct because the jib halyard needed to keep tension on the roller furler all season long--I didn't want to have to re-tension it every week. I was amazed by the virtual zero stretch (not 1/2") of that line under guitar-string tension over the entire season. With double-braid, my furler drum would likely have been lying on the stem fitting every weekend. For just hoisting and dropping sails every time out, good quality double-braid will probably do OK. To maintain maximum luff tension while racing, go linear.
