Ya know, whenever you install a music system in something like a boat, it shortly becomes obsolete. I've looked at used boats with very nice cassette systems (obsoleted by CDs)... Earlier, cassettes obsoleted 8-tracks... Now Ipod docks are obsoleting CD players, but in turn are being obsoleted by satellite radio. My solution is a $59 boombox that plays whatever I have at the time--in the cockpit, in the cabin, in the v-berth, or wherever. No speakers to deteriorate, no wires, no holes in the bulkheads, and no problem when a new music source becomes the standard. (...just another $59.) I look at the fancy systems installed in boats at shows and chuckle.

Dave,

Same here - I use an inexpensive compact style boombox. It fits in the cockpit between the seats or on the steps in the cabin. Has good sound and I use rechargeable batteries in it.

But...everyone has their creature comforts and pleasures. A nice built-in sound system is something to appreciate ...but for me, I will settle for appreciating it on someone else's boat.

Sometimes I DO bring a small radio or boombox on board, but I prefer to listen to the wind and the water, talk with crew, listen to the scanning VHF as the Tangier watermen talk to each other in their Devonshire accents or listen to the OD on supercarriers explaining to sailboats in Hampton Roads that little boats do NOT have right of way (true story).

I'm pretty much with you Brooke, not a huge Buffett fan either but this new one is something different. Or ....... possibly I've just finally lost my mind

Dave, it's pretty much like a sound system in a car, The upgrade fits in the old box most of the time. And when music is important to them, people will spend more to have a better system. Right now you can buy a decent CD/MP3/CDR/WMA player with Weather radio, MP3 player plug in, FM, AM, and satellite radio for $250 or so. That being said, I usually find myself turning off the radio to listen to the wind, waves, birds, etc. when sailing. Hoping to be able to get away for a few days when I'm sure I'll use the stereo more.

with a basement.
I had to cut out the cabin sole to repair the hull around the keel box.
fun!

Have yet to reattach the sole, so it is a pain to stumble over.

I agree with Dave on the stereo although I've toyed with installing one recently. For now I'm satisfied with my portable with hand crank charger.

Dinette with a cut down top that fits the bed system. The pedestal sure looks nice and simple worth a look for that project list.

yeah cuz you know that when its you versus the freighter you want to be on starboard tack for rights and in the event that the dinner bell rings you can eat the trail mix and summer sausage whilst sitting on the port side in comfort.

Sorry dennis - Your situation is just a bit odd.

If you can overcome your dining table issues you'll find twice as many sailboats available in your range.
