As of 1345 today Canyon is now up to 949.33 feet--40 feet above 'normal levels.' For anyone interested, go to www.canyonlakeinfo.net for some photos and lake level info. The photos are taken from the 'shore' side of the road which goes out to the marina. They were taken yesterday morning, I believe, and the water has risen quite a bit since then. The spillway is now flowing at approx 60,000 cfs!
Word is, mid/late September before we can once again drive out to the marina. Problem for me is that I keep my boat dry-slipped up on the hill above 'Papa Dock's' restaurant. As of last night, they told me that only the 'blue flashing light' on the roof was visible. Hopefully there is a truck stuck out on the 'island' somewhere that I can borrow to launch 'Ruah' and put her in a wet slip until the road is accessible again. If not, looks like I'm high and dry on the trailer until I can get my own truck out there for a launch! Funny thing is that I was initially supposed to take the boat down to Corpus earlier this week for the Fourth. Plans changed, however, and we decided not to take her down there. Wish now that I would have!
Maybe I'll see you on the 'ferry shuttle' some time next week. I'll at least run out to sit on 'Ruah' and pretend I'm out on the lake.

Just got back from a trip to the marina. Had to go from the highway to the marina in a (gasp!) pontoon boat! Standing in my cockpit I am looking straight out on a parking lot with 6' of water over it - normally this is 43' above the boat...The topography of the lake is totally different - water where normally is dry land. All the boats seem to have survived although "This Side Up" had wet sails in the aft berth (darn scuppers leaking again, I think). If you look at the pics on the website link that Bren gave, the one with the tall poles would normally show a road to their left. The water on the right covers a large field on which cattle normally graze. The sign about the shuttle is 1.5 miles from the marina - that's how much of a surface area increase we have had. The water is now up to the second story roofline on Papa Dock's restaurant. I'm sorry I didn't take the camera... Derek
Since you just made a trek to the marina, was the dry-slip parking lot on the very top of the hill still dry? If the water level is up to the top of Papa Doc's, it's got to be getting close! Hopefully the spillway will keep the level from getting any higher. I'm out on the raod for a few days and won't be able to check it out for myself. I've been talking to Cody at the marina office, but no one has answered the phone for the last two days. Kind of getting worried.

Sunny day, low to mid 80s, N winds (offshore) at 10-15... We pulled out of the slip late yesterday afternoon, motored out into our harbor on Long Island Sound, and were about to pull up the main when I looked behind us and saw a charcoal sky in the NW and a faint orange ball where the sun used to be. Visibility looked like just a couple of miles. Flipped to NOAA--no warnings or reports... But the sky was weird, so thinking "pop-up squall," we left the sails down and motored around the harbor and back for a cocktail in the slip. Still nothing on the radio, and nothing happening...
Driving home, we heard the story: Smoke from fires by James Bay in northern Quebec, 7-800 miles N., are being carried into our area. Today we can smell it, and under cloudless skies, there's barely a glow from the sun. So, we'll try again.
Things are getting strange everywhere!

Thanks for the report! Maybe I can sleep better tonight. Let's pray for NO MORE RAIN!
As of about 1600 today the Comal County Commissioners have passed a local ruling banning all boats from all parts of Canyon Lake until the 20 th of July! Check the web site from my previous post for more details. Apparently that also includes the marina shuttle, at least until the water level stablizes below the spillway elevation. Sounds like a bit of overkill to me.

I guess it's all relative. Right now it's 117 degrees and the wind is blowing 15 knots, and there hasn't been any rain in years. Of course, I'm sitting in the middle of the desert in Saudi Arabia, about a half a planet away from our boat! Also ran across something interesting on satellite TV: the sailing channel. Eminates from Italy--provided you get past the Italian language, there are quite a few interesting shows. It's about as close to sailing as I'll get until I get home in the fall!

My 250wk #385 "Moon Chaser" is at Canyon Lake along with Derek's "This Side Up". I managed to get to the Marina Saturday 7/6/02 about noon. I took my digital camera and took lots of pics. I have spent the last 2 days trying to figure out how to post pics on the forum and finally cracked the code. The attached picture is a shot taken from the marina near the Sea Doo Rental office toward Papa Docks Resturant which normally is a considerable hill climb above the Marina, now the Marina is even with the Roof! You can View other pics at: http://www.Canyonlakeinfo.net/flood_2002/index.htm Words can not describe this event and pictures are not fully capable either: Check the pics,...... Great updated photo! Same angle as one of the photos on the 'Canyon Lake Info' site, shows how much the lake rose in a VERY short period of time. I think the pictures were taken only a few hours apart. My boat is on her trailer and is the center mast just barely visible behind the white truck in the background to the right of Papa Dock's. I'm hoping the marina starts running the shuttle again tomorrow so I can get out there to check on her. Guess it's up to the Comal County Commissioners and there recent boat ban.

Bren, I thought I saw a new 250 at CLM, My wife and I were on our boat when you were rigging her in the parking lot....we wondered where it went. Are you new to Canyon Lake, or is this just a new boat for your family? You should consider joining the Hill Country Yacht Club.(HCYC), A great group of people both Power and Sail. Plenty of activities, live bands, food, beer, and wine, racing etc. all for just $20 a month...Makes the Marina life complete. Look forward to meeting you when life returns to normal. Our Summer at the lake looks washed out for now. I do not see it returning to "Normal" until September. The last report I read said we would be able to get out to our boats when the lake level stabelized at or below 943'. If the lake continues its current trend that may mean by next Saturday if the Marina crew are ready to deal with us...they have tons of work cut out for them. David, Charlie, and the rest are doing a fantastic job of keeping our Marina functional. What is amazing is that we still had electrical power when all the land around was without. Check out the Canyon Lake web site again. Geff (the webmaster) posted about 6 photos I took that day. My wife and I are off to Kehma Tx at Galveston Bay next weekend to look at boats and take a sunset sail to satisfy our withdrawal symptoms from the lack of sailing. Steve Steakley Moon Chaser #385wk

Steve et al: if you check the pic taken from the road, you will notice that the power poles are twice normal height. The marina had these installed so that the power to the marina would never need to be turned off because of high water over the road. It also means that when we finally get mobile I'll be able to lower my hoist and go sailing! Derek
