My previous boat was a Flying Scot, and I belonged to that class association for seven years. While you cound't ask for a nicer bunch of folks, the fact remained, if you did not race, you were pretty much a seond class citizen. EVERYTHING revolved around racing, and while the number of people who raced was signficantly larger than here, it still really came down to a relatively small number of people who had the time, and money, to actively campaign their boats and consequently whose activities were subsidized by those who either couldn't, or wouldn't. Not that it would, but I would hate to see that happen here.

First let me say that Matt has contacted us and both Rick and Chris are board and staff members respectively. The other member - Andy from jalapeno has also sent an email to one of the officers within the past month showing his desire to bridge the WYC gap.
There are a number of issues - all of which can be resolved through communication and planning.
Please excuse the disjointedness of this email as I am trying to respond to questions and comments that occurred throughout the day.
As for the quote: I don't know for certain why we are in it...
There were a group of sailors (sailors - not racers; not cruisers) who were not getting the representation they desired from the mfg, nor had the complete structure in place to build an association from the ground up. We had the same MFG, the same size boat and offered to assist. Nothing more nothing less.
The National regatta was run break even last year and for all intents and purposes will be in the future. As long as that continues, in my mind there is no infringement. Not to mention as an equity offering cruising events can now seek reimbursement equivalent to that of racing events.
Next - based on the stats I have seen and WYC aside there are about the same number of capri 25 owners that cruise, pleasure sail or only race sporadically as there are that solely race if not more. Very similar to our mix.
On Cleveland becoming the de-facto nationals... No one entered a bid this year Bill Meinert merely picked up the torch and said he'd do the leg work. By piggy backing off of an event he has less than half the work to do than a normal regatta. It could just as easily been during Lake XYZ annual maplefest regatta.
I agree we should let WYC go - (per Nautiduck's comments) and agree with Arlyn that they have become the deFacto group. There is nothing we can do about it other than to put togther a situation that would make them desire to come here. As I stated earlier, there has been a response from a member of that group.
There is room for everybody, both online and in our organization.
I would ask that while Chris, Rick, Matthew, Andy and the rest of the board discuss this via email that we put a hold on this topic. Rest assured that it is being addressed. There will be enough email threads flying around let alone a thread here. I will put it on my Calendar to come back in one weeks time, even if to say there is no update....
I do however want to emphasize that be it 1 guy or 100 there is not additional cost to the association to not include the capris and I no intention of voting to eliminate the integration.
Bristle - you get to hold the stopwatch to remind me.
I would personally like to thank everyone for all of their advice, comments, support, and even criticisms during this discussion and keeping it civil. One of the reasons why I am here. I would also like to thank the Board for a very positive response and their prompt attention to the issues.
For the record, the Capri Class has no intention of taking over the Association and turning it into a One Design Racing Association, that is kind of funny actually. I do think all members would be served by having every class represented on the executive board. In all seriousness Duane was 100% correct. The Capri was designed as a pocket cruiser/racer intended to compete with the Kirby's, J's, Merit's, etc. The Capri did not have any manufacturer support whatsoever or an association of it's own. The consequence of this is that the limited number of Capris that were built were scattered to the wind. Our major efforts at have been locating Capris (as well as being available on the net), contacting their owners, and getting them to join this association. This has been a long, and at times, a frustrating process. We have a list of over 100 Capris worldwide, not including the WYC, that we are currently trying to move to this association. We have no intention of monopolizing the board, or suck up all of the association's financial resources to race. If you believe this whatsoever, you should get to know us and I guarantee that you will change your opinion. We are here to support the Association first, and the Capri Class 2nd; but we cannot support one without the other. I did after all travel to and from Chicago in a blizzard last month to meet and socialize with association members first, and attend strictly sail second. Well worth the trip and the time in the cold even though I was the only Capri class member in attendance. Thanks guys for organizing that event. It was great meeting you.
At this time I am considering this matter closed and would invite anyone to contact me personally via email to offer any advice, make comments/inquiries, pose questions, etc. Again thank you for your association wide participation in this discussion.
