A little off subject, but I just returned from a short trip to France. Left on Monday afternoon and returned on Wednesday evening.
To help with the 20 hours of flying, my wife sent me off with a new book, "A Voyage for MADMEN", by Peter Nichols.
I was not that excited about it at first, I have read a lot of sailing/ nautical texts that would put you to sleep in less than 10 pages.
This one is different, a true story about the world's first ever solo circumnavigation race, the Golden Globe race of 1967/ 1968.
The book is great from a sailor's perspective, but is written so well, anyone would like it, including the non sailor. After reading the book, I feel like I have always known the characters. They really come alive, a real sign of a well written book.
The first half is very interesting and the second half is absolutely riveting. This book would make a great movie. Definetly one of the best that I have experienced.
