I am selling a capri main, and a C25 owner wishes to know if it would fit his boat. I responded to him with, <i>"If you have a SR C25 your "P" dimension is 2.2 (2'-2.5") feet shorter than the Capri, but the "E" dimension has only a tenth difference. Theoretically (anyone correct me if I am wrong)running a 2' lower is not a big deal other than clearence above the coachroof, but it will impact any kind of rating you currently have if you do any kind of handicap racing." </i>

Does anyone have a differing opinion or concur with my statement?

If you're not into max performance, just put a set of reef points at the proper P-dimension and either re-cut the foot (preferable) or just roll it up on the boom like a reefed sail.

Not that I'd do that, but it'd work.

I use a Capri 25 mainsail on my TR boat, which allows me to use a bimini. You can click on the bimini on the C25 Tech Tips for that thread.

For what you're selling that sail for, I'd be surprised if he couldn't get it recut and still be ahead of the game.

If it were my boat, a cruiser, lowering the boom 2' would be a very big deal. Aside from the boom being closer to my head in the cockpit, my bimini wouldn't fit, the boom vang angle might need to be adjusted, and there are probably a couple of other issues I'm probably not even aware of.

The price of the used sail of unknown origin plus the additional costs to have it repaired, recut to fit a C25, cunningham and reef points moved, etc, would probably approach the cost of a new North C25 main.

I would agree with you on all of the issues regarding the P dimension & potential cost, but the fact is that just looking at the sail as well as the workmanship and performance does not make it prohibitive since it may have been made by an independent loft. Name brand production sails do not always indicate quality. The repair would also be very small, but I beleive that almost all repairs should be done by a pro.

Thanks for the input everyone. I advised the C25 owner against acquiring the sail.
